Frozen Section

Improving patient care by giving histotechs the professional tools that they need and thus giving pathologists the frozen section slide they have always dreamed of!

The Frozen Section Procedure is an urgent procedure, known to offer slides of poor morphological quality due to the slow freezing procedure. Often, the slides that are produced cannot provide a definite diagnosis and the answer from pathologists tends to be uncertain.

The Frozen-Area is a division of the Pathology lab, where the need for professional tools is crucial. With this in mind, Milestone Medical has developed PrestoCHILL and PRESTO PRO, that improve both cryoembedding and staining for creating high quality frozen sections in less than 10 minutes.

A frozen block made by PrestoCHILL in less than 60 seconds will have a planar surface with ideal sample positioning and no ice crystals! The frozen section slides stained with PRESTO PRO will be as good as permanent sections for normal tissues, fatty tissues, muscles and also lymph nodes.

PrestoCHILL

Revolutionize the Rapid Freezing Process

PrestoCHILL reduces freezing time to 60 seconds and eliminates freezing artifacts through ultrafast freezing, preventing the formation of ice crystals. Cut fatty tissues, like breast or lymph nodes, can be frozen without difficulty and without the distortion of their delicate honeycomb structures.

While using Milestone’s patented “face-down” embedding technique and PrestoCHILL, it is possible to obtain perfectly “flat plane” surfaces to reduce trimming time and cut more easily.

No freezing artifacts | 60 seconds freezing time | An all-dry system | Full downloadable documentation | No liquid nitrogen | No Co2 – No isopentane

PRESTO PRO

The final step towards frozen sections of permanent-like quality

PRESTO PRO is an innovative benchtop processor/stainer for high quality frozen sections. It introduces a standardized approach to processing slides using FineFIX, a patented Milestone solution, followed by fully automated staining protocols.

It is now possible to produce frozen sections with permanent-like quality by combining the artifact-free tissue freezing of PrestoCHILL with the outstanding features of the all-new PRESTO PRO processing/staining unit.

Processing/staining time reduced to 150 seconds, for up to 6 slides. XYLENE FREE

FineFIX Module

Enhanced Manual Staining of Frozen Sections

The high quality of Milestone frozen sections can only be obtained by freezing the specimens with PrestoCHILL and by processing the slides with FineFIX before staining.

The FineFIX Module consists of a heated metal vessel in which the FineFIX solution is kept at 40°C.
Frozen section slides are immersed in the solution for 15-60 seconds in order to simultaneously carry out the specimen’s fixation, dehydration and lipids extraction.
After this pre-step, the specimens are stained according to the user’s standard protocols.

FlashFREEZE

Standardized and Documented Protocols for Enhanced Tissue Banking Procedures

Over the past decade or so, it has become clear that the great majority of biospecimens stored in the world’s biorepositories may not be suitable for the state-of-the-art genomics, proteomics, metabolomics and other bioanalytical technologies used today to search for cancer-related biomarkers.
The irreproducibility of many reported biomarkers is due, at least in part, to the fact that the biospecimens utilized are often procured using different collection, processing and storage techniques.

To overcome some of these difficulties, Milestone has developed FlashFREEZE, which standardizes the flash-freezing processing step for biospecimens. With FlashFREEZE, it is now possible to carry out evidence-based freezing protocols on biospecimens with the full documentation needed for QA purposes.

The unit takes only 1 hour and 40 minutes to go from room temperature to the operating temperature of -80°C. Biospecimens are frozen in only 60-150 seconds.

No liquid nitrogen, no isopentane. Histology grade ethanol is used as a heat transfer fluid and is suitable for non-contact freezing procedures of biospecimens or fluids.
